Lithographic Printing The maximum number of available colors varies, depending upon the press being used. Please call your sales rep or CSR for assistance. Envelope converting equipment has a +/- 1/16" variance during folding. Allow minimum bleeds of 1/8" to achieve desired results. Rule weights should be a minimum of 1/2 pt. In reverse areas the minimum is 1 pt. Any point size can be used, but we recommend a minimum of 5 pt. type in positive areas and 7 pt. type in reverse areas. Screens are run at 133-150 lpi, depending on the press being used. Standard litho traps (ink overlaps) are 1/4 pt. Flexographic Printing The maximum number of colors 4/1, that is 4 outside colors and 1 inside. Envelope converting equipment has a +/- 1/16" variance during folding. Allow minimum bleeds of 1/8" to achieve desired results. Rule weights should be a minimum of 1 pt. In reverse areas the minimum is 11/2 pt. Minimum 6 pt. sans serif type required for quality reproduction. When using serif typefaces, an 8 pt. minimum is recommended. Please avoid using small type in reverse areas and when possible, use larger, bolder typefaces without intricate serifs to assure good quality reproduction. Screens are generally run at 120 lpi. Screen percentages perform the best when run at 40% or less. Halftones can print well depending upon the quality of the original file or of the digital scan. Avoid duotones, tritones and graduated screens as they do not print well. It is best to design your artwork using spot colors rather than building those colors out of process colors. At this time we do not print 4-color process in flexography. Avoid large solids and screens of the same ink color. If possible add another color to the design (a lighter color) so that we may print it as a solid. You will receive a much higher quality printed envelope. Please keep in mind that there is a 4-color limit. Standard flexo traps (ink overlaps) are 1 pt. This is not always possible to achieve without changing the look of certain items. If possible, keep this in mind in the creative stage.
